Preschool Classroom Substitute - #016112 Kona PreschoolKamehameha Schools is a private, educational, charitable trust founded and endowed by the legacy of a Hawaiian Princess, Bernice Pauahi Bishop. To support our operation, Kamehameha Schools (KS) is hiring for Preschool Classroom Substitutes at our Kona preschool on the Island of Hawaiʻi. The deadline to apply is: 2/29/2016.
This is a Temporary, On-Call position with hours of work dependent upon operational need.
A High School Diploma or GED and at least 6 months of experience or CDA or AA in any field with 9 credits in Child Development or ECE.
Summary of Minimum Requirements:
• Have good interpersonal skills with children and adults and good written and verbal communication skills.
• Able to organize a high volume of varied work activities.
• Able to lift children up to 30 pounds.
Summary of Duties:
• Assists staff in preparing educational materials; the setup and maintenance of learning and outdoor environments; may prepare snacks and be responsible to sanitize serving and eating areas.
• As directed by supervisor/teacher, may accompany children to and from: snack areas, play areas, bathroom, etc.
• May also include assisting in daily classroom instruction which includes appropriate interaction with students and small group instruction.
• Position may also include assisting with maintaining student/family records and student observation and assessment (Work Sampling System).
Division Summary: Kamehameha Schools (KS) has 30 preschools statewide that enroll over 1,600 keiki, ages 3 and 4. Each classroom typically consists of 20 keiki in the 4-year-old classes and 18 keiki in 3-year-old classes. Each classroom has a qualified teacher and a teaching assistant, making the adult to child ratio 1-to-10 for 4-year-olds and 1-to-9 for 3-year olds.
